 | Cost of My Medtronic CRT-D

I noticed someone was wondering what their Cosulta D224TRK cost. I had one implanted 3 wks ago and it was billed to my insurance at $67,500. The RV lead (Sprint Quattro 6935) cost $13,500--almost as much as my 2 year old Medtronic I had for bradycardia. They implanted the Consulta after I developed CHF. The LV lead (Attain Starfix 4195) was $6500. They left the atrial lead I had before and it originally was about $1800.
So a CRT-D seems to be about $50,000 more than just a plain old pacer! The thing is a miracle, as anyone who has one will testify: a built-in defib; thoractic fludid monitoring; brady pacing; wireless connectivity; plus a slew of other features too numerous to mention here.

Yes, I think the total for my first one was 120,00. The results were priceless.:)

I just had one of these implanted (Mon, 11/9/09). Would you say currently it is top of the line?

I hope you are doing well....YES, I think Medtronic is the BEST, but I am biased. It gave me my life back.
PS..don't forget to keep your arm down so the leads can heal. :)

Sue - I've added you to my "fans" list, hope you don't mind. Speaking of leads healing, what exactly does that mean? How long?

HI THERE. I need all the fans I can get, thank you. :) I was told I had to keep my arm down for 2 weeks...that is so the leads that are put in your heart muscle can attach and heal. My doctor actually SCREWED them in my muscle, (yeah ) but like anything else, the tissue has to heal...after that, you can do anything....I lift weights on the machines at the gym and swing on the bars at the park.
PS They even told me to take a soft bathrobe belt to loosely tie my arm down to my side at night when I sleep.
Do you live in Florida now?

Actually, I'm still in northern Kentucky! Wish I did live in Fla. My wife and I are discussing retirement and, after this year's health challenges (and they're not over), we would like to live on Tortola! I assume you are in Fla?

Oh, and thanks for the "healing" information. I wasn't aware that the leads actually would be "attached". I thought they would float within the arteries. Interesting.

Palm City, just west of Stuart and about 35 miles north of Palm Beach. Tortola.....sigh.

My wife is into sailing; I can't swim. She was on 50 footer sailing around the BVI a few years ago. She brought back pictures. We've discussed and, hopefully, make our way to the caribbean trade winds. Some day. Just have to be concerned with medical services, maybe?!?

IMO...a nice place to visit, or even a second home, but I would be more comfortable having a good medical facility close by. I am a retired (for now) RN, and I have taken care of people who have been airlifted from that area.....they did not even have basic supplies available in the hospital. BTW...great picture!

Thanks. I'm still tweaking my profile. I was going to ask about all your detailed knowledge re pacers. I did't think it necessarily came from just being a user. Retired RN?!?! Your advice and comments are spread throughout the chat room. Now I know why! Thanks. This was a good day today to have connected up with this site, and with you. I appreciate your feedback. Have a great day!

I do not think they should send the bills during the recovery period. I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I opened mine.
