I have had my Flu shot { not the h1n1 yet }, but have come down with bad congestion , and coughing up phleem. It is in my lungs , Is there a shot or something they do , for high risk cases ?

This is not good. I'm so sorry. I think you need to see the doctor and maybe he will give you something called Tamiflu. I heard that knocks it out if you start it early. I hope you feel better! Are you sure it's the flu and not your heart?

I believe with your heart issues you would qualify for the H1N1 shot but now that you're sick, they won't give it to you. Tamiflu is good at the very beginning of the illness. It sounds like you're pretty into it now. You didn't mention fever. How's your temp? If your cough is productive and the goop is yellow or green, see your doc ASAP.

Thx , goop is green , but no fever , at this point , Have been trying to get h1n1 shot , but only caretakers are getting vaccine, here so far. I see doc tomorrow , Not my own , but dr. on call . Extremely congested , and green 'goop' at each cough . I am sure a rain forest in the tropics. would cure this , but seeing doc in meantime . Thx All Jim

Sorry you are feeling so bad, Jim. Please stay in touch.

Just a note... In the hospital where I volunteer, we are following some nationally-suggested procedures. Children under the age of 12 aren't allowed to visit any patients (18 years old in the birthing areas). No one can enter a patient's room without washing hands with either the alcohol cleanser or water and soap, and I'm to ask everyone if they have a cold, flu symptoms, etc. Most people understand, some do not. Help spread the word to those visiting hospital patients... no children under 12 should even set foot in any hospital right now. Adults with colds or flu symptoms should also stay home. If they insist on visiting, be prepared to wear masks and gowns. In the case of critically ill patients, they need the love and care of family, but certainly they don't need germs.

Thank goodness you're seeing the doctor. Green is a bad color. Let us know what they say. Probably listen to your lungs, do an x-ray and then give you pills. What fun.

Aha, I knew it! I've been there, done that so many times with my lungs. The Zithromax should help you to feel better soon. You should probably have a follow up visit to make sure it's all clear.

Hi Jim, I personally don't support people get the new vaccine. Old and long history vaccine which is safe that I might consider it. I didn't want to take any vaccination because I'll get side effect and feel even more sick.

Actually, H1N1 can controlable by admitting the right antibiotic. One stage, this H1N1 was a popular place spread around here in Melbourne. Health council don't think it was a good idea to put these kind of patients in hospital (cost too much). They let all (unless the one need to be admitted to ICU) H1N1 positive patients went home and quarantine themselves. It's not so successful thought. Many countries rejected Melbournees enter at that time. Sydney told us, Melbournees not welcome to Sydney! I think most of the Melbournees now have high immunisation of this kind of piggy flu than people in else where.

Jim, you should treat it earlier rather than wait for the phlegm turns "Green". Take care.

Maybe what you got was a dose of Tamiflu which seems to help? I've had four loved ones in my family who have had the H1N1 flu, Half, and certainly it was not a picnic for them.

Hang tough, Jim. When this is over for you and when Spring comes, I hope you invite me to walk your route with me, the Tumwater tour sounds wonderful. Lunch will be on me. We are a short three mile drive from one another.
