Was a distance runner , all the way to 41 yrs. old , But terrible trouble w/ legs . Something called ' Myopathy ,' in right knee ,{bad burning pain .} and heart is getting blood to legs , but blood not circulating back to heart properly ,{ I was told by dr. yesterday .}Bad swelling , water retension , areas where veins appear to be at surface and small vericosed areas. - am maxed out on water pills , watching water intake , walking 5 1/2 miles every 2 days at least , any ideas? Is this the onslot of vascolitus, limb loss ? body parts falling off ?
Felt really good that i still had my fingers and toes , just needing a heads up on whats coming ..
Thanks,
Jim

Hi, Jim. What do you mean by maxed out on lasix? How much do you take? Do you control the amount of water/fluids you drink each day? Unlike most of the population, the rule of 8-10 glasses of water a day for good health does not apply to us. You don't have diabetes, right? I know you eat a very healthy, low sodium diet.....there is another diuretic that is much stronger than lasix, when lasix stops working well...it is called Bumex. Did the doctor advise you to elevate your legs during the day? This can help a lot. elevating means your feet above your heart. Not all edema is due to heart failure...it can also be from poor venous ( return of blood to the heart) circulation from varicose veins, etc. Walking 5 1/2 miles....WOW! I wish I could do that...I would be flat on my face. How long does that hike take you? It could just be a circulation problem and not your heart. Try putting your legs up. Your edema can be very painful. let us know. Sue

Hi All,
Sue , assuming the Furosemide ,is my 'lasix', I am taking 80 mg. in am. , and pm. , for 160 mg per day, at this point . dose was doubled a month ago at stress test when leg swelling was getting out of hand . I don't have varicose veins 'yet ' ,just a few small 2" areas starting to appear . Not diabetic , .
Is good to know of stronger med, thx , Sue.
If I do the ' river hike ' Tumwater Falls , 3.6 Miles .It now takes several hours , as it is more hills . Was a 5 hr. lots of stops , and rests , The Capitol Lake hike is level ground , and 1 1/2 hrs, on a 'good 'day. Nothing said about elevating legs , but am building a deck , and trying to put up firewood , not much Rest ,
Thanks,
Jim

Hi....yes that is the lasix. I hope you feel better. I'll bet it is getting cool over there.....I always feel better when the weather gets cooler, which lasts for a few days here in Florida. LOL. Take care. Sue

I take 40mg in the morning and 20 mg at 3 pm of Torsemide which is about 2x stronger than furosemide. Keeps my edema in check. Walking up to 5 blocks and still on my low sodium diet.
