In my case, it would respond to big advil doses, as well as periods of rest. Sciatica can be caused by lots of factors, including arthritis and injury to the lower vertebrae. When the lower vertebrae hurt or inflamed, Sciatica is a very common issue. I used to compare the pain to an ice pick driven into my butt and leg, it can be very painful.
If you can, I'd suggest rest and also take gorilla doses of advil or a pain medication. Complete bed rest really helped me, but that was difficult. I stay away from opiates for several reasons, including having addicive issues and also opiates really hurt my stomach. I would suggest rest and take as many as OTC 12 - 16 Advil tabs a day.
I trust all is well in the NE.

One girl has been on Xanax 25mg 3x's/day for TEN YEARS!! She tried coming off of it and CAN'T!
Oxycodone is the choice of drug for EVERY PAIN NEED!! Chronic or not! For ONE day or YEARS!! And if you can't get it from your doc....they are on the street 'everywhere'!!!
One doc told this 80 year old guy to smoke pot for his back pain since Oxy wasn't cutting it anymore for him. He's going to ask his granddaughter. :0
That's how they keep NYS residents dumbed down!! LOL!!!

another suggestion.....tramadol, or ultram....it is supposed to help pain, and it has not yet become a street drug...Many doctors are using this recently. It is less controlled, and seems to work. It has antidepressant properties

trouble is, narcotics are not indicated for chronic pain. they do not work long term. people build up a tolerence, and become dependent on them. if the pain persists, they try epidurals, nerve blocks, etc. sometimes they even kill the nerve causing the pain. if it is muscle, then muscle relaxants and therapy help. stretching, exercise, etc. good luck in your quest for long term narcotics prescriptions, half. I am in a new york frame of mind right now, gretta.

It sounds like Sciatica to me, the Sciatic nerve can be be stimulated by a change in the lower vertebrae, and shoots a pain from the lower back, down the butt and back of the leg, sometimes extending to the heel. I had the condition when I was a young guy on a commercial fishing boat, and was tossed around the deck and hurt my back. Advil was my best friend.

Oh Sue, you are singing to the choir here.
Have had that pain for a few months now....from my lower left back ....right down my leg!!! It's most painful when I lay down or sit or stand idle. If I walk, I'm better! Strange, huh?
I take Motrin when it gets too bad.
Hope you get some relief soon!!
