INTRODUCTION:
You are encouraged to participate in our heart related
discussions through the discussion area found at the bottom of
nearly every page. Simply type your message, preview it, and post it
for other users to see.
Before you can post, you'll need to register a free account.
If you don't already have an account, do this now. It's easy, free, and
confidential.
HOW DO I POST A MESSAGE?
There are two ways to express yourself at HeartFailureChat:
- Posting a reply.
- Posting a new article.
The first method is the easiest. On virtually any page on
HeartFailureChat you can leave a comment by going to the bottom of
the page and entering your comment in the area that says
"Leave a comment!"
Posting new articles is used when you have a special new topic
or news story that you want to submit for discussion.
To post a new article, first go to a page which is related to
the article you are going to post. Then click on the option
found on the right-hand side, "Post a new topic."
You can use neither of these features until you
register an account.
HOW DO I MAKE TEXT IN DIFFERENT COLORS?
If you enclose text between < and > symbols, it will appear in
gold. This is usually done to quote other users before responding to
a statement.
For example, if you type this:
|
<John> : when you wrote
<exercise is to be avoided> I think you overlook a lot of
evidence that suggests that exercise improves survival and symptoms
of many heart related illnesses.
|
|
Others will see this:
|
<John> : When you wrote
<exercise is to be avoided>
I think you overlook
a lot of evidence that suggests that exercise improves survival and symptoms
of many heart related illnesses.

HOW DO I MAKE A LINK IN MY MESSAGE?
If you want to refer to a page (an article, team, sport, player, etc.)
which is in the HeartFailureChat
database, you can make a clickable link to the game in question.
This is done by simply pasting the heartfailurechat.com URL (web address) into
your message.
When others see your message they will not see the URL, but instead
the link.
For example, if you type this:
Sadly, I have been diagnosed with an idiopathic form of
http://www.heartfailurechat.com/perl/node?node=1.
|
|
Others will see this:
|
Sadly, I have been diagnosed with an idiopathic form of
Heart Failure.
|
|
Now if they click on that link, they will go to our main page about
Heart Failure.
You can also link to a website that's not on HeartFailureChat. Just drop
the web address in place (including the http:// part) and it will
become a clickable link.
HOW DO I PUT A GRAPHIC IN MY MESSAGE?
If there is a graphic online that you want to include in
your message, get the web address to the graphic and drop
it in your post.
For example, if you type this:
|
http://www.heartfailurechat.com/smilies/banana1.gif
I'M FEELING GREAT!
|
|
Others will see this:
I'M FEELING GREAT!
|
|
If your graphic is particularly large, it will show up in a smaller
format and give people the option to click on it for the larger view.
HOW DO I PUT A VIDEO IN MY MESSAGE?
HeartFailureChat supports embedding videos from several of the popular
video hosting sites. The sites currently supported are
Google,
MySpace,
YouTube,
iFilm, and
Vimeo.
To activate this feature, all you have to do is copy a link
to the video page from one of these sites into your message.
A video player will automatically be embedded into your message.
For example, if you type this:
|
Here is a video of my EKG after surgery:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVC7c0l9HEE
|
|
Others will see something like this:
Once posted, the video is viewable directly from HeartFailureChat
by pressing the "Play" button, or one may visit the page from the video site that
you posted.
Note that some video hosting sites have an option "embed" or "put on site"
used for the purpose of inserting videos into other sites. You do
not need to use that features at HeartFailureChat--just give us
the address to the video page and we'll figure all that stuff out
for you.
